Live Prices
Every price on this site moves with the London market. There is no members' rate and no price held back for a phone call.
How a price is built
Gold trades at a spot price per troy ounce. Above that sits a premium covering refining, minting, distribution and our margin. Premium varies by piece: a one kilo bar carries the least per gram, a one gram bar the most, and coins sit between, with the Royal Mint's legal tender issues at the higher end for the tax standing they carry.
Why the price changes while you look
Because the metal does. Quotations refresh against the live market, so a figure quoted this morning is not binding this afternoon. The price you are shown when you order is the price you pay.
Fine gold, not gross weight
You pay for fine gold content, which is not the same as what the coin weighs. A Sovereign weighs 7.98 grams but holds 7.32 grams of fine gold, the balance being copper alloy. A .9999 Britannia weighing one troy ounce holds one troy ounce. Every listing states both.
Buying back
We buy back at the market on the day you ask. The spread between our buying and selling price is how the business works, and it is narrower on larger, more liquid pieces.
Large orders
Above a certain size the premium is negotiable. Write to the desk rather than ordering online.
